“[Phedon’s] been shooting movies since I was born…” With a career spanning over three decades and 55 movies, Phedon Papamichael, ASC, seems to have shot-it-all. But what’s incredible is how unique each installment of his historic career feels. In his latest piece, A Complete Unknown, Phedon returned to a familiar genre and time period: musical biopic and 1960’s New York. However, just like everything else in his repertoire, it feels entirely new and different. Potato Jet sits down with the cinematographer to discuss shooting at 12800 ISO, lighting and exposing for VENICE 2, how the Sony eco-system expanded his arsenal, passing a digital image through film, and more.
